Dutch Schultz Book?

I learned to shoot the patched round ball from Dutch Schultz. Not the gangster! The muzzelpader guru! He sent me phamphlets that I lost over the years. Did he ever put out a book? And if he did, can I get one?

I just now went to ebay and bought Dutch's book! $32.35 with tax and free shipping. Since he taught me over 30 years ago, I thought he must have passed away. He was allot older than me, and I just turned 70. I am very happy to be able to review all this information! I expect that there is allot in the book that I don't know. Thanks for this info!

Dutch did pass away this past year but his daughter is still selling his book and we are lucky to have it.

Dutch's system is focused on shooting on percussion rifles. Most of that can be directly applied to flintlock rifles and with a little bit of help as offered from sites like this forum, we can refine the system to include shooting flintlock arms too. It also doesn't include smoothbores. These are a bit different than shooting a rifle. but the same concepts of developing consistency can be helpful in developing smoothbore loads.

For all forms of muzzleloading firearms, his instructions for cleaning, care and general maintenance are good information. I don't fully agree with his so-called waterless cleaning system as water is involved as part of the solutions. Putting that aside, a lot of usable information is available there that is not offered elsewhere unless a lot of searching is done.

For all of my friendly debates and other takes on his system, I do recommend the Dutch Schoultz "Black Powder Accuracy System" for new shooters of traditional muzzleloaders.

Dutch was a shooter. I didn’t get as good results as he did when I tried some of his stuff. But you can’t argue with success.
We lost a giant I’ll tell anyone to get his book

I purchased the paper copy from Dutch's daughter on ebay. Worth every penny. It seems to be a compilation of all of his materials. Of course I am always gonna tinker with different lubes and such but I have used his system with amazing results. And I gained a lot of confidence in just knowing that if I miss, it is my fault and not the rifle's!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading his thoughts oh building loads, reading targets, you name it. Have i tried it all, no. But I found it logical and full of tips and tricks to read and work through my load development process. For some of my work his writings was way overkill as I worked with scouts shooting and for them it is more about the experience than bench rest accuracy. Volume mattered more as I made them all shoot off hand as no benches in the woods 200 yrs ago. But as I worked on my personla loads and just shooting his work was a great read and help in analyzing what was going on as I shot. Still have his work and would buy it again if needed. Highly recommend.

I got it and went through it. Couple good tips in there, the main theme is when building a load to be consistent in your methodology and to only change one variable at a time. Not rocket science by any means, but helpful to those that may have never reloaded. His concoction is also no secret nor magical.

He was a good guy and responsive to questions or I probably would have taken him up on his money back guarantee, I didn't have the heart to do so.

My Dutch Schoultz “Black Powder Rifle Accuracy” arrived a couple of days ago. Haven’t read it all yet, but I’m greatly impressed. I believe this book is really going to help me. Highly recommended.
