I use oil based leather dye. It works pretty good, but limited on the colors

I cheat a bit…..Attach my antler measures to my ball blocks. Fast for me, and helps avoid dry balling in the heat if the hunt. I have had good luck staining my antler measures ith oil based stains. My 58, 50, and 45 cal.

Hi Art! I'm impressed by what you've done in making these blocks and antler powder measures. Very nice! Why did you make small groves in the pouring edges of the powder measures?

Applied some Premium Oil Minwax Fast=Drying Polyurethane "warm satin" to my powder measures yesterday... two coats. They don't look at all "plasticky" as I was concerned they might and the carvings/numerals actually seem more legible for some reason. I think they'll be fine, but will post updates here on a semi-regular basis as they get used and wear. Minwax claims it is their "most durable clear protection". We'll see, Minwax.

Antler like horn is a protein based material. Silk and wool are also protein based so anything that will dye wool or silk will also dye bone or antler. Walnut hull is a stain not a dye which is why it fades overtime.

Antler is bone. Horn is keratin. The same protein that the surface of the skin, hair, nails, and hooves are composed of.

Nope. Never tried to "rainbow" dye something. Not a "woke" household... we're all asleep here.
