Someone had asked me to find out information on the early model of the1763. I can’t seem to find the post, so I will reply here.

I spoke with some people at a competition here in France last weekend and they know of this gun. To find out more information on it there are two possibilities.

A book called Armes Reglementaires Française by Boudriot. There are four volumes and it would be in the first volume. I found it for sale, but it costs over $500. I found used copies for under $50, but they are only one volume and not the right one. If it were under a hundred, I would consider getting one for myself, but can’t justify that much for a reference book that has very little on what I am interested in. If you are interested in buying a copy, let me know and I will give you the information on where to find it.

The second is the museum in Paris. There is a good chance I will be visiting it sometime before Christmas.

What exactly do you want ? Complete drawings of the gun? Is there a particular detail you need? I will see if I can find out more information on it and maybe be able to take a look at the book if I can find someone who has a copy.

I hope the person who asked for the info reads this thread. The drawings will probably be a big help to him.

Is there a way to contact Flinter Nick? I’m new to this forum and don’t find how It can be done.

Hi Yea that was me.

I'm gather parts from the Rifle Shoppe for a 1763 Charleville, the heavy model Charleville not the 1766 light model, Im working on the bands right now.

My major issue is that the middle and front barrel bands have an unusual ramrod system, there's a 'U' shaped spring steel gutter shaped spring that extends about 13 inches from the front to the middle band, like a ramrod guide, Bianchis book says it was riveted to the front band and Neuman says it was brazed with a brass pin. Spoke to the owner of the Rifle Shoppe, according to him the pin was very small and shallow and welded on but over the years the pin would break and a screw was used. He recommend just letting it sit between both bands without welding it (it slides underneath both bands) it only moves slightly when the rod is out.

to add to my post.... I wanted to see if anyone has actually seen an original 1763 with this rammer guide attached. I've only seen original 1766 pattern guns and 1774 pattern charlevilles.

I don't think I have ever seen one with the original pin. It seems like it was a poor design so the only ones I have seen had been threaded and a screw added. I can still post the Boudriot drawing if that would help in any way.

the 1763 barrel bands were a poor design for sure. The rest of the gun is the same quality as the 1766, I might consider just putting regular barrel bands on it and setting the original ones aside, they can always be slipped back on too if someone gives me trouble about historical accuracy lol

the drawing of the screw hole on the 1763 band would help a lot. Thanks !

Flintlock 1640. If you could send me drawings of a 1777 Dragon that I have, I would really appreciate it. Let me know what information I need to give you to send them to me. Does this site have PMs?
Thanks

I’ve found it, but for over $200, for the first volume. Too much for me. If you are interested. I will send you the links where I’ve seen it for sale.

That would be great ! In your copy do you have a drawing of the lock ? And stock ? Thanks

It does. I'll copy it for you. I got mine on French ebay. Little more common over there. I got both for under $100

Thanks ! I’m working on the lock, from what I can see in pictures of the original the lock is about 1/4 longer than the 1766 lock.
