Well it is only a month, more or less, until the Eastern. I'll be there again this year as school master with my usual grape and apple cider. Stop by "ramrod's camp" if you come for a sip. :idunno: :idunno:

I've heard of the Eastern, and have a few questions. Who puts it on? Where is it located? What are the dates? I would be very interested to know more about this event. Also, is there shooting events at this one?

The "Eastern" is the National Rendezvous and Living History Foundation's largest Rendezvous. The location varies from year to year. This year it is at Troy Ohio (North of Dayton). There will be lots of competition, rifle, smoothbore, archery, knife and hawk for sure and possibly trap and other events. It is a "one fee covers all" event. For nonmembers it is $55.oo if preregistered $65.00 if registered at the gate for that one fee you get a campsite with fire wood, porta pots, and entry into all events. There will be venders and partisipants from all over the country and possibly Europe as well. Last year Kari came over from Finland and camped with me. They have a web site with more detailed information just search for it as "Eastern Primitive Rendezvous 2014". The dates are September 24 to Oct 2nd ( I think check the website for exact dates.

Yes it is the largest primitive rondyvoo the NRLHF sponsors but they only have 3 others, Northeastern, Old Northwest & Southeastern Primitive Rendezvous. The EPR was once a very big deal. I have a medallion from some time back in the 90's in the 5300's. They rarely top 800 now or 3-4 hundred camps. The Old Northwest use to be huge too but struggles to get 200 to 300 people or a 100 camps now.
Rondyvoo just ain't what it once was but it's still the best we got.

The Alfia (spelling) in Florida has gotten bigger than the Eastern . (probably has something to do with old buckskinners and retired people moving to Florida). There are many rendezvous not affiliated with the living history foundation, but unfortunately even those are declining in numbers. We need Hollywood to produce a movie where the old time longhunters and mountain men use there ramrods to shoot the vampires and powder horns as bombs to blow up the zombies to get young people interested in buckskinning just as Jeramia Johnson did for us.

Yes, The Alafia River Rendezvous in Homeland, Florida, is bigger than the EPR but it isn't affiliated with the National Rendezvous and Living History Foundation. It is put on by the Florida Frontiersmen which is a private muzzle loading gun club. They get all the profits from all those snow birds that attend their big camp in January. The NRLHF is the rondyvoo side of the NMLRA. That means they get part of the money we pay to go to the rondyvoo. They will give you $10.00 off your rondyvoo entry fee just for being a member. I figure I'd have to go to 4 1/2 rondyvoos a year just to break even. There are only 4 now that the Midwest ceases to exist. The NMLRA has nothing else I'm interested in so I'm not a member.
