OK so who's heading to the Eastern in a couple weeks? I've been to most of the work parties and the place is georgous. Plenty of wooded n open areas both to camp in. The public days are the 24th n 25th of this month. I'll be running the archery n hope I don't screw it up to bad as this is the first time I've run anything like this(he says with fingers crossed)if yer there n want to stop by I'll be camped about 40 yards down hill(on the left) from the intersection of Conestoga n Bird-in-Hand roads. My lodge is a big 16x16 Marquis(dark blue trim) with (cedar tone) orangish colored poles, also there will be a fly out front. Conestoga road is the one that circles the suttler area. Looks like it is gonna be a right beautiful event, hope to see some of ya there, YMHS Birdman :front:

I know your sentiments, RR! This is our first rondy and I can see my wife's just starting to get into it - try to pamper her a bit - do the cooking & cleaning up, etc. :winking: - I've asked her to look at it as an "adventure" and she's having a pretty good attitude. I found her even researching period correct things like pottery on the 'net and she found a nice tin serving tray at Goodwill this week.

Look us up... we'll have a sign with "cherries" on it and we'll be selling spectacles as well.

This will be my seventh eastern and living in eastern Ohio I normally only have to travel two or three hours.I have to say that Muddy Run is worth the the ride.It is one of the nicest locations to hold the Eastern and I am sure that no one will be disappointed.Of course,it is the nicest group of people that you can find.Good luck to the guys trying to get their wives interested,I never had any success in that endeavor.I'm looking forward to seeing your friendly faces.I will get there early Friday morning and leave Monday.

I'll be getting in on Fri. morning, most likely staying till the 30th. Don't think I can stay the last weekend. Anyone sees an overstuffed old hairhog, wrestling a squalling octopus (may or may not be kilted, depending on the day), stop and say hello.
By the way, Brother Bird, it'll be poor eatin in camp this year. My Bride had knee surgery, and she's a bit leery about dealing with uneven ground just yet. But I'll be bringing along a "wee dram or twa frae oor holdings in auld Alba".

Piper ya grey haired ol codger not to worry about food as I n the wife will have plenty to share iffen ya need a hot bite. As of right now there is a spot saved for ya in the same place ya had last time across from where I normally camp at Lancaster. Just hope the dog soldiers don't tear down the stakes I got set up to hold the area. There is enough room for you and Big Scott n John right across from me. I have been there since Saturday working on the Archery range n other camp business. Had to come home for the evening so Samantha n I can run to Baltimore to pick up Diane(bead Jimmy's woman). We'll be heading back to camp in the morning. To everyone else I'll be hanging around camp the first Sat n Sun so stop by n say hello. My camp is just down from the intersection of Conestoga and Bird-in-Hand roads, I'll be on the left if yer walking down hill(on Bird-in-Hand) n there is a small sign BIRD'S CAGE hanging off one of the poles. Hope to meet some of ya there. Later, YMHS Birdman :front:

The 2006 Eastern will be held in Dodderige County WV.This will be the fourth rendezvous held at that location and I consider it to be a very nice location.I just got back today from Muddy Run and everything was perfect. The site, staff, organization and weather could not have been better. The discussion around camp for 2007 was either a return to Muddy Run or Malvern Ohio.Although, the Malvern site is basically treeless the Booshway and staff are good people.Of course the same holds true for the folks at Muddy Run.I doubt that the 2006 EPR has a web site this early :imo: but you might look for the 2004 site it might still be up.

Well, brubincam, I was at the EPR when you asked... sorry...

We stayed from 9/23 till 9/30 and rather than resize photos to put here, I'll just put this link...

Eastern Primitive Rendezvous

... with a bunch of pictures and a journal describing how we survived our first rondy! I described some of the mundane little things that some of you veterans might be bored with :snore: but I wanted to give our friends and relatives a "feel" for what it was like.

River Rat stopped by our camp on the first Saturday and I found Birdman at his camp as well - it was great meeting both you guys!

Our first day was a little rough on Mrs. Maestro :winking: but she perservered and ended up asking to stay an extra day! The kids had a great time, too! I want to thank all of you that gave me some good advice & tips, too!

I have to say that the week was one of the most memorable experiences of my life! We're definitely going to do it again (probably Fort Fred. in the spring and then the Eastern again in WV next year) and we're going to try to get some friends involved as well. We met some of the nicest folks... some casual "buckskinners" and some "serious" reenactors (and I learned alot first hand about some of the differences that often show up in this forum re: PC issues!) - there's certainly room for all types at an event like this.

If any of you have never experienced a rendezvous... by all means, make it a point to give it a try - you'll be very glad you did!

:thanks:for the tour it was great, loved the photos of the children, :thanks: did i see aluminum foil wrapped around the potatoes? :nono: :shake: :rolleyes:is that PC? looks and sounds like you and your family had a great time,,,

Thats a great journal of the EPR Maestro! Hornbuilder and his wife took the Mrs and me last year. I'm still new at this, but what is the policy on camera's at Rony's?

At most vous anything modern is covered up so it does not stand out. If you wish to use a camera ya keep it in a bag or covered loosely with a hide until ya take the picture then cover it back up when done. Also most events frown on useing a flash at night so ya don't see to many night time shots. Best thing is to call or write n ask the people running the event to see just what their rules will be and then go from there.YMHS Birdman
