I have a Petersoli Bess but I can’t bring it to school. It might accidentally shoot someone!
So I need a non firing version. Unfortunate but true. Anyone know who makes the best authentic Bess that is …..ugh……non firing?

I’d go with a solid, maybe bored down from the muzzle a few inches for effect. I wouldn’t risk possessing a real barrel on school property. There is a guy on the cannon forum that turns wooden cannon barrels for casting patterns, maybe he could make one?

many of the muskets from India do not have touch holes. might be a good option. but check with the school district to find out where they are comfortable drawing the line. even if it a non firing replica of a antique doesn't mean someone won't have an issue with it.

I used to take all my muzzloading stuff to show the history class in a Jr. high school. First thing a boy did was grab up my original india pattern brown bess, thumb pack the ****, place the muzzle against a girl's temple and pull the trigger. I was horrified. This was in a country school too, back in the 80's. I'd never try that again.

Just guessing but I'd say California maybe. If that's where this "educational event" is located you'd be hard pressed to bring a slingshot or a BB gun to a school.

Even in PA, you can't bring anything including bayonets. I've given up on doing school programs, which is sad.

Option 1. Remove the flint and put in a wooden one. Completely non- firing as a musket.
Option 2. Pack the breech with cloth or paper. It can be removed with a worm later.
Or do both. No way that will fire. Now it has been “Rendered inoperable” .
