I rescued a 1970s eibar spain 36 cal. the problem I have is I changed the nipple now when I fire it ,I'm a lefty, I get splatter from the cap. I looked at the lock hammer and it's hemi sperical on the striking surface. So should I just try to flatten the under side or grind a "little" cup like more modern repops are. thx Bruce

I solve simular problems by making a thin brass spacer and solder it in place with the hammer on the nipple to enssure a flat contact. If you don't have a fine torch you could use JB weld to hold the spacer in place.

Take a dremel type tool with a small drum shaped stone , put the hammer in a vie upside down to view the striking surface. Hold the end flat on the striking surface ,and make a circular cut with the side of the stone. In other words , just enlarge the striking surface w/o grinding through the skirt of the hammer. Back inthe early 1970's , Ihad a Spanish .45 cal. percussion long rifle. I had to do the same operation on that hammer , as well..........Hope this helps.......oldwood

thanks for all the suggestions. I'm kinda leaning towards what oldwood said. this rifle was over a mantle for about 40 years I'm trying to put it back in use. I can't see it going to waste,I love to rescue old shooters. thanks Bruce
