I had been looking at the maine powderhouse website. If it is as bad as these posts imply, which I have no doubt it is,it is no wonder they went under and good riddence!Where is a good source of Goex?

Try this guy. I bought a case from them that worked out to $9.11 a pound, shiping ,has-mat fee and all. That is Goex black powder.

Bonnie, your right, Linda is at October Country, too many suppliers, and too few brain cells left. :: G.O.S. Gettin' Old Sucks

To add my two-bits: I tried a batch of Elephant fffg a couple of years ago with awful results. I had no end of problems, even couldn't get the stuff to ignite sometimes--but when it did it was REAL DIRTY. After I switched back to GOEX, ALL OF MY PROBLEMS WENT AWAY! I got tossed off another site for saying this, but it is true--maybe just one bad batch, I don't know, but once burned twice shy. Others I have talked to have had good luck with Elephant, but Goex is more consistent in my experience. I see no reason to risk it, myself.

J&JPyrotechnics, very good! Thanks guys.I'll be staying w/ Goex.I suppose the low price for Elephant is so the distributor can clear out his shelves to make room for Goex, wht do you think?

Lucky Jack,

I had an experience with Pachyderm Powder that I have NEVER seen before. While swabbing the bore of my old .54, I saw (God's honest!) flecks of UNBURNED WOOD on the cleaning patches. I thought the range safety officer's eyes were going to fly out like in a cartoon. He wondered if I'd used pencil shavings for filler or a wad or something there was so much cellulose in the soot! NEVER AGAIN!! I dumped it in the Saugatuck River and swore off. Back to Swiss forever!!!

I tried elephant before- I didn't notice any difference in fouling, or grouping but did find that it printed lower for the same volume. For whatever reason, I ended up using it up in BP .45 Colt cartridges. Burned fine there, but it's full army loads, so it's compressed and with a big, hot primer.
Does anyone know where the nearest place to DAYTON, OH is that I can get ANY Blackpowder? The last place to sell it was in Bellbrook, and they went out of business.
:curse:
As far as I know the nearest place is Ohio valley trading in Athens/nelsonville.

I tried elephant and had a lot of trouble with fouling, I like goex! :imo: :results: :m2c:

Yea, that Pachyderm powder musta come out of the end of the Elephant that fertilizes the grass, cuz that's all it's good for. ::

Much more fouling with Elephant powder than others.
Goex is and excellent BP as is Swiss and Schutzen.
