That load is just fine for elk (or moose and buffalo for that matter). I took a bull with 70 grains of fff pushing a 370 gr. minie and he went less than 50 yards. Try to place your shot in the lung area and behind the shoulder blade.

Colorado's Regulation says that a conical length can't be more than 2x the diameter. So, a .50 can't be more than 1" long. So, just be sure to measure first, before A Division of Wildlife officer does. No sabots allowed.

And, yes, measure and shoot some of the Power belts to see how they work in your rifle. If they work in your rifle, you could hunt anything in the lower 48 with them.
