i was told last year when i bought my WMC to never ever even think about removing the plug. but by golly want to do a super clean up on this carbine and i'd like to know if he told me right.

Removing it isn't going to kill it. But on the other hand, it's not necessary. If it was a used gun and you wanted to see if there were any hidden issues, I could see it. I had a .54 Renegade that had some questionable maintenance before it came to me, and low and behold...the chamber area was imaculate!

What caliber? There are ways of shining light down into the barrel to see the condition of the breech. I do it with my .54 GPR and if I see shiny at the end, I know it's clean.

Take it to a professional gunsmith, they will have the equipment
to look at the inside of the breach end with out removing the
breach plug. Should not cost any more then whatever their
minimum charge is.

The tool they have. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=6662&title=HAWKEYE~+BORESCOPE
