Escutcheon removable

I have a CVA rifle and the escutcheons are installed with some sort of nail. What is the best way to remove those fasteners without damaging anything? Never ran into this before.

Pictures help. If you can Dremel grind the head enough to push the nail in enough to then hook the escutcheon hole, that might work. Once the escutcheion is removed you can then pull the nail. Make sure you have physical room to move the nail down. And or...... The barrel may need to be removed first. Again I am flying by the seat of my pants as you don't have a photo. Dunno how to save your nails!!!

Do you have a great reason for removing the plates?

I have 2 old CVA rifles that have those same little nails holding the escutcheons.
One particular rifle stock has some dings and scratches and I've considered refinishing the stock.
If and when I get round to it, I'll most likely just work around the escutcheon plates and not try to pull those pesky little nails.

Was gonna refinish the stock, looks like working around them will be the simple way.

Can you try to tap the escutcheon out from the barrel channel using something like a pin punch or a small diammeter rod?
