I will start out with extreme appoligies for reasking a old question, I looked in the search but to no avail. I would like to have the recipe for M.A.P. again so I can make it and try it.
would any one who has it please get it to me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks and I am sorry for asking dumb questions, again.

Musketman and Stumpkiller
Thank you both very much, you both are gentlemen and scholars.

m.a.p.? only map I know of I use to get lost with on road trips. you telling me I can use em to shoot with! do i use a northern map to too shoot higher and a western map to soot to the left, or am I missing something here?

Quote; Nope, you have to use a Kentucky map for windage...

What wit! :: That was a good one, Kentucky windage :D
you guys crack me up.
I have been trying to come up with some home remedies for patch lube and cleaner so that I do not have to be relying on mail order products for my rifle. The Stumpy's moose snot for patch lube seems like a real winner, I've made some and hopefully I can get out this weekend to give it a whirl. I was looking to try this MAP stuff for cleanin'. I hope I get the same results that I read about on the other thread. Although I am a little concerned about the peroxide, rusting?

Griz: Would you do me personal favor and STOP apologizing for asking questions? You're SUPPOSED to ask questions. That's what we are here for.
We NEED people to ask quetions. It give us modertors something to do. ::

One other thing I would like to add here, NO moderator or administrator on this forum will ever yell or belittle anyone for asking a question, even if it has been asked many times before...

Maxiball may be grumpy at times, but that's because he needs more fiber... :haha: :haha: :haha:

Simple - 1/3 Murphy's Oil Soap, 1/3 plain water, 1/3 anhydrous (99%) isopropanol (that's rubbing alcohol without the water).

This gives you the same percentage of solids as Lehigh Valley Lube (and works identically as far as I can tell..).

Peroxide does nothing whatsoever, and it spontaneously degenerates into water anyway after a short period.

It's great for swabbing.

Ok....now that I have regained my composure ( thought I had Comedy Central instead of the Black Powder Forum).

This MAP stuff......I take it that is a bore cleaner?

I don't mean to be dense about this but I started shooting my first muzzleloader when I was 16 and have spent the last 40 years listen to people try and reinvent the wheel or find the holy grail. Myself I have never bought any commercial stuff....used warm soapy water to clean followed by light oil. The stock gets paste wax after every cleaning.

I have a flinter I built about 1977 or so. That's all I have ever used on it and it will still shoot better than anybody I know can hold. When I load, the bore is smooth all the way down. I don't have hang fires or misfires and there isn't a lot of gunk running out my vent hole ( which by the way is just that a vent hole not a vent bushing). For hunting I patched with Crisco as a lube. For target I used spit ( the bullet wasn't going to be in the bore long enough to rust).

I don't mean to be stuborne about this kind of thing either, I just have never had anyone show me that the store bought stuff is any better than what Mother Nature gives us. ( Well Crisco may come from General Foods , not Mother Nature but you get my drift).

I must admit you did have my curiousity up though.

We do like to mix business and pleasure around here fer sure ::

That's the great thing about this sport - there are so many ways of doing the same thing it never gets boring. I try different things just for the fun of it - some with surprising results while others may not prove worth the effort. It all adds up to enjoyment and gives us something to talk about :winking:

Nothing beats hot soapy water, I use Ivory bar soap, shaved into thin flat strips for fast disolving...

Maxiball and Musketman; I appoligize for appoligizing so much
:shocking: :D :D :D :D :D :D
