Just wondering what I should expect to pay for a Uberti 3rd Model Dragoon.I have always wanted one of those "Hog Legs" and need some tips while I shop around. Thanks!

I would think, 350 to 400 new, with shipping, for an Italian copy. Used? Depends.

Sources to check:
Dixie Gun Works
Midway
Possible Shop
Bunch of others

Uberti seems to be the standard.

You can buy a NIB 2nd Generation Colt Dragoon off of Guns America for $550. I think the vendor has all of the Dragoon models offered for that price. I would go for the 2nd Generation Colt before I would pay $350 - $400 for a Uberti. Nothing wrong with the guns, great shooters, but for $150.00 more you got the Colt name and better resale if you ever wanted to sell or trade it.

Thanks guys!So Do you think the extra 150.00 bucks is worth it?I mean The Colt name is nice but if Uberti produces the Dragoons for Colt, would there be much difference quality wise or would it just help the resale value?

Uberti did not produce the 2nd and 3rd Generation guns for Colt (when is this urban legend ever going to die?). There are dozens of threads on this topic so I'm not going to repeat all that stuff here. I'm sure someone will, however.

Are they worth the $150 more? That's a subjective question and very much depends on what you want in a c&b revolver. In my opinion, yes, but that's in itself not worth a cup of cold coffee or a glass of stale beer. They are very well finished guns, clearly better than the best of the Italian replicas. I like that. However, as well as I can shoot a c&b revolver, they're no better at that.

OK so the finish is better! But since I intend to shoot it the finish will take a little beating. So mechanically the differences are minimal right?

The action is slicker and you are buying a genuine made in the U.S.A. Colt. They are worth every penny of the premium they command.

This is a hard question to answer.

I own a Uberti 2nd Dragoon and a Colt Signature 3rd Dragoon. The Signature is a very nicely finished gun; it's not only very nice looking, but the action is very smooth and lockup is just perfect. It looks, feels and acts like a thoroughbred.

The Uberti is also very nice looking but not quite as fine as the Colt. Likewise, the action is, or at least was, just a little rougher. It is certainly as good a shooter as the Colt. It just took a little time and effort to make it as smooth.

Does that answer the question?

Plus one of them is a real sure enough dammit gen-you-wine COLT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or did I mention that already?

OK Dudes! You sold me! I guess I should buy the genuine Colt, having never owned a Colt revolver before I guess I may as well pull the trigger(So to speak)!I have owned many S&W and Ruger revolvers so it is high time for a Colt.I sure hope it will be worth it!

Just another vote for the Colt since it sounds like you can afford it and suggest you buy one that has already been fired/used. Buying a fired one should save you money and will preserve a minty Colt for a collector.

I have been shooting/collecting 2nd Generation Colt's since the early 1970's. One of my Dragoons is from the early production. It is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. Wonderful fit, timing, action smoothness, etc. and the beautiful Colt color case hardening.

The Uberti's are also fine guns. However, owning a Colt, marked and serial numbered like those made in the 1800's adds a lot to the fun of cap and ball revolver shooting.

Mykeal you know there's always jus' one more time to have to repeat(jus' kiddin') :)

Well since the Revolver will be more expensive than planned,I will havev to delay purchase because the kids are going back to school and that is expensive.I'll wait till the fall when things pick-up at work!I will not baby the revolver and if it gets a few nicks or scratches it will just add character.I do know that it will be properly cleaned and maintained(as are all my other guns)!
