I have a William Billinghurst rifle that I want to get into shooting condition. The bore is shot, so I am going to have it rebored. Right now it's a .421 across the lands. Does anyone have experience shooting these guns? What would be a good bore/ load combo with paper patched bullets? I'm thinking around .44-.45 size, but I can get it bored any size at this point.

.451 bore, 1-21 twist similar to what Pedersoli uses in their Mortimer and Tryon Creedmore rifles. My next choice would be .450 bore, 1-20 twist common in 45-70's. Bullet molds are pretty available for both. Nice looking gun, too bad the bore is bad.

Thanks for the input. That is kind of along the lines I'm thinking. It is too bad that the bore is rough. Where it is smooth the bore looks fantastic. It's off to Hoyts!
