Offering a premium custom build Bucks County style rifle in 50 caliber. Builder is Tom (RT) Caster of Michigan. Fitting and engraving are top quality as are all the components.
Barrel is a 44" and 7/8" straight Hoppy Hopkins (H&H) in 50 cal. Brown finish is 95% or better. Rifling has a faster twist, maybe 1:40-ish with wide grooves and narrow lands. From my research on H&H, they were considered a match-grade barrel and this gun has always been accurate and I've won several rounds at local matches with it. There is some minor pitting in 2 grooves about 6 inches from the muzzle. There's no sharp edges, patches are fine and accuracy is very good -but it does tend to get a little extra crud on humid days after 5 or 6 shots. I've only ever used patch and ball with the gun.
Barrel is neatly fitted into a VERY curly maple stock with appropriate carving for a Verner or Schuler styled rifle. Brass fixtures are engraved with tasteful elements. Side opening patchbox works smoothly from a button on top of the wide butt plate. Hunter's star in the cheek.
Chamber's large siler lock is browed to match the barrel. I had the lock tuned by Brad Emig at Cabin Creek. It is paired with a Caine single set trigger. The combination of the 2 makes ignition lightning quick and this gun has never failed to fire on the first pull of the trigger. The single Caine trigger gives the appropriate traditional look, but with the advantages of a set trigger.
Dimensions: overall 57 1/2 inches, 14 1/2 LOP, weight on my scale is a hair under 9 pounds.
Asking $2900 shipped in the lower 48 USA. Check or money order. Please PM for details.
