Next to a replica cap tin for scale only, the tin offered is 2"x 2 7/8" and has a copper and freshwater mussel shell lid:
The body is a cut from an old galvanized drawn shell that had a rolled edge. After roughing out the thickest part of a mussel shell half I ground the piece for the lid round, wet, on a discarded stone, then polished with water and lapidary grits; it came out 1/4" thick and slightly domed:
Copper water pipe was re-rolled and soldered to fit the body, then the shell ground to fit. A 5/16" thick Caragana bottom is secured with eight copper pins and the top and bottom are finished with beeswax inside and out:
The small un-ground area left on the underside of the lid is now the only "pearly" area but the piece is translucent when viewed through the top:
I'd like $25.00 for the tin and ask that the buyer include the USPS shipping in his cost. Thanks very much for looking!
