Built this traditions pistol kit for my Dad for fathers day. This is the first kit I've built by myself, and I think he is going to like it. He doesn't have the ML bug yet but I'm hoping one of these in a presentation case will give him the itch.

Nice job on the gun. I built one like it from pedersoli for my dads B-Day a few years back. I can tell you this. He may not be bit by the black powder bug but you just got bit worse. That will not be your last gun build. It started me down a whole other road of building them. The gun I built my dad got put in a flag case that you would put a fo9lded flag in and is sitting on his mantle. Those cases are pretty cheap and look really nice. Get one with a red or green background to make the gun stand out and it's a great presentation peice. The only problem is my dad says its to nice to take out and shoot. I told him I built it to shoot but hes kinda weird about that. Nice job and enjoy the look on his face when you give it to him. Andy

Looks real nice from here. If yer Dad don't appreciate it, I'd be happy to adopt you as my own. I've got that same pistol and really enjoy shooting it. 30 grns FFg, .490 ball and pillowticking patch. The muzzles are a little tight so he will definitly need a short starter. For those pistols, a short starter with a ramrod long enough to ram it home works great at the range.

I'm sure he'll like her, I'm hoping he falls in love with the whole muzzle loading thing so I'll have some more guns to play with soon. As far as my bug, I've already got an identical kit to that one to build for myself, and I'm trying to decide what caliber I want for the rifle build I have in mind.

Nice job, I hope dad likes it. It's great to have a partner in crime. It seems to me you might have an ADVANCED case of "bitten by the bug". I'll let you in on a little known fact..... THERE AIN'T NO CURE. You'll just have to enjoy the time you have and make as many guns as you can, it lessens the pain. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

That's a very fine Fathers Day gift. It's something he will treasure for ever because (you made it) for him! :hatsoff:
Tell us how it goes.

Well I finally got the time off to go up to Kerrville on 4th of July weekend, which worked out as Dad's birthday was on the 6th, and boy did he love it. He had no sooner got it out of the box than he looked up at me and said "did you bring stuff to shoot out of it or do we need to go get some right now?" When I told him the balls were in the truck and the powder was in my bag he was on his feet and out the door looking for a target. The thing is a blast to shoot with 20g fff and for him it was pretty much dead on accurate. My Mom's dad (who got me into this muzzle loading mess in the first place) came over to shoot it as well and he loved it. They both shot way better than me. I guess I better stick to my rifle unless I'm trying to get those dang Comanche's to leave my horse and my scalp right where they are. Dad, being used to modern firearms said "the good thing is by the time you miss they'll be close enough for you to brain 'em with this thing, and it's heavy enough to do the trick."

 Good for you cowboy, sounds like the fruits of your labors are sweet. Glad your dad had a great time. I'm sure he is proud of you, if you were my son I would surely be. It seems he did a good job of teaching you what is important in life!! I hope there will be many, many more shining times ahead :hatsoff: :hatsoff:
