Had a conversation today where I told a co-worker I needed some input on the history of a sales discussion with our client (I’m in operations) because I didn’t want to go off half cocked.

Got me thinking of some other sayings that have muzzleloader origins…

Lock stock and barrel. Keep your powder dry.

What’s your favorite saying with muzzleloader origins?
First the powder, then the ball, or it won't shoot at all!!

Sure! You can use my ball puller! Do you need it?😂

Nothin' to do with muzzlers or the people who shoot them but, if ya asked my Grampaw what he had against whoever he'd been grumbling about for 10 minutes : "I ain't got nuthin' ag'in him, if I did I'd run it on through him".

FIRE IN THE HOLE!!! (A requirement on our hunting club's rifle range to alert the beer drinkers sitting back at camp 25 yards away from the shooting bench. Don't want to spill any beer.)

From quarrying or mining, not shooting. Drilling a long hole, filling it with explosives, and setting off the fuze. Hence 'fire/fuze' in the hole.
