What do you make the wads out of? Felt obviously but what kind? I've never used them and would like to try.
Google up Durofelt. They sell hard wool felt that works perfect. If you wish they have lanolin also for making patch/bullet lube. Prices are great IMO and they are great to deal with answering questions plus get after it when it comes to getting stuff shipped out to you. Try one of the scrap pieces in 1/8" hard gray to start with is what I would recommend.

I use felt wads in the bush but found a cheaper way to wads for plinking and range shooting. For casual shooting I ball up a prb size wad of toilet paper and seat that on the powder. It actually does every bit as well as a felt wad and I've NEVER had one smolder. It seals better than caliber size felt wads.

Use dry Duro felt wads for hunting.
Get medication every month in an insulated container that uses 1/2" cotton. Have a life time supply. When shooting on the range these get some tallow/olive oil, keeps everything soft.

In my shotgun I use 19mm or 3/4” adhesive felt pads that go on the bottom of furniture legs to prevent scratching. They are very cheap and are just oversized enough to seal a 12g barrel perfectly. I use a lard & beeswax lubricant. Melt the lube to liquid state and dip the felt side into it. No need to peel off the paper backing.

For one of my rifles I buy the same felt furniture stuff but in flat sheets. Liquify your lube of choice and pour it onto the felt side. (Against just leave the paper backing on so the adhesive is not exposed). Let it cool. Use a hole punch appropriate for the calibre and punch out the wads.

Another super cheap material is carpet underlay, though use the felt kind and not the synthetic stuff.

I have a bag of those furniture pads. Thanks for all the info. I am working up some hunting loads for a couple of rifles and will do accuracy tests with and without. I'll definitely try the tissue wads at the range next time.

go to a REMEMANT STORE and buy an old felt hat and cut it up and soak the wads in a lubricant. and, VIOLA!!

I use about 20grs by volume (45 cal ACP shell full) of corn meal over the powder. The generously lubed PRB cleans the barrel and pushes the crud into the corn meal. Cheap & Easy.
