I am glad you guys are hashing out using FFFF vs FFF in the flash pan before I buy a flintlock. This will save me a little time and money. Well, maybe not money.......

Bent Sight, you will spend it on other stuff anyway but it is all fun. I have part of a can of 4f I bought 40 years ago. I don't shoot flint often, but just use 3f for priming when I do.

Curious, what gun brand and projectile were you shooting? What was the charge? How many shots?
Walk
A 7.5# .50 flint SMR, 7/8' barrel, 36" long. I was using .480 RB & 0.18 ticking patching, lightly lubed w/ canola oil. My measure throws 65 gr. ,normally 3F.

Wow. No one has suggested burning you at the stake for endangering innocent bystanders by turning you rifle into a potential pipe bomb by using 4f!
I mean every can of the stuff DOESN'T have warnings written all over it! šŸ˜‚
Good on ya feller.
If I was building a pipe bomb, I failed miserably. No discernable damage. I figure that, at worst, I just proofed it- repeatedly.

Iā€™m against true 4f in the bore in most scenarios, but, thanks to the forum here and ol BS, as soon as I finish my .29 cal Soddy flintlock build sheā€™s going to get the 3f v. 4F treatment. If it shoots better with 4f Iā€™ll name the little BB gun ā€˜Britā€™. ;)

Explosives. Any chemical compound, mixture, or device, the primary or common purpose of which is to function by explosion. The term includes, but is not limited to, dynamite and other high explosives, black powder, pellet powder, initiating explosives, detonators, safety fuses, squibs, detonating cord, igniter cord, and igniters.
OK...thank you.

The ATFE contradicts itself because BP doesn't function by explosion, but by deflagration. Further the boxes that come marked with HazMat warnings do not label the contents "explosive" but either flammable or combustible. Hence my error.

Tried it on a China cereal bowl and a stainless steel spoon. Got a phoof on third batch, about seventy grains.
still had about a hundred and forty grain from my first two batches. Did nothing that I could notice to be faster.
never trie it again, never bought a can of four f

It's one of those things where, once you try it, you realize the futility of your mistake.

We may see it as quite safe and it is but the other issue for authorities is that it is very easy to ignite.
Of course, we know all this stuff anyway.

Try telling them it's not explosive over here and they will throw you on an institution.
Whilst it doesn't detonate it does burn. Quick enough to still cause an explosion or explosive force.
