Filing With Files

I was scraping the finish off a
Rifle stock . . . and
Ended up using a file and a 'drawing' motion

OK, draw filing a barrel
But, draw filing wood

Got me thinking
Is draw filing an accepted wood shaping
Technique?

Scrapers have been used forever ... a file is simply a slightly different scraping tool. Just my take. Polecat

I have seen folks use huge rasps to file and shape wood.

I'v been draw filing wood for years. With a sharp mill file it puts a pretty good finish on the wood. Like most things, it works better on some wood than on others.

Pleased you Said "Brass brush". So many people use a Steel card to clean files. Only taking the edge of files sharp edges. Another file cleaner can be a piece of 1/2" copper water pipe flattened at one end.Used across the file It will clean most clogged files. OLD DOG..

Auto body technicians have been using "cut" files (with single cut very large teeth) on lead and filler to produce very smooth surfaces. A sharp cut file (do not draw sideways) (cut in direction of rising grain) will work as well as a good cabinet scraper, and not leave scratches like a rasp .
