What's a good filler or epoxy for this gap? Thanks

Whatever you do, it will not be perfect. If you must fill it, I would get a chunk of material that matches your wood and glue a strip on the wood. The grain is the issue, you have to keep the patch consistent with the grain. I believe some gap (or all of it) is needed in order to pivot the barrel out. Make sure you check for clearance before you add anything, othwise barrel removel will be your next issue. Good luck.

The other side doesn't have a gap. The way it is now, I have to remove the tang to take the right lock plate off.

Here is a chip I repaired using sawdust from scrap black walnut mixed with Titebond 2 glue. I put a little grease on the buttplate to keep it from sticking and built up the area with the glue/sawdust paste. After it was dry I sanded carefully to contour, added a little stain and finished. Not perfect but better than the chip. I don’t know how it will hold up to pressure.
