I've been shopping long and hard for a muzzleloading pistol and finally bought a new Lyman Great Plains Pistol in 50 ball and cap. It looks like a very well made piece. I hesitated over the made in Italy thing but my arsenal is getting increasingly global I suppose. I look forward to joining the ranks of like shooters

Half the guns I own are made in Italy. Mostly Pedersoli and Uberti. I love 'em and have never looked back!
Enjoy your new pistol!

I like the Pedersoli's but they've always been a bit pricey for me...I've hade many Uberti's in my hands over the years but I have yet to buy one {mostly cowboy stuff}

i have a lyman plains pistol in .54. great shooter. as a matter of fact i shot it the day i did the "duel", and the first shot was about dead center. should have posted that one! in all seriousness it is a great pistol and well made. i've had mine for about 3 years.
I also now own a pederoli .45 in flint, and it is a tack driver as well. you can't go wrong with either one in my view, even though i know some people have had problems with the pederoli. mines great.
the only wish i had for the plains pistol was that they hadn't carved the stock for the belt hook, but it does come in handy every now and then. enjoy, and have confidence in a good purchase :thumbsup:

Lyman makes a great gun....forget the stampings...if you want ..you can always have the stamping ground off by a pro and refinished... they call it Defarbing. It might cost a Buck or Two and it shure wont make the pistol shoot any better......Let us know how it shoots!
We will be waiting
