Got the hammer cut and reangled to throw sparks into the pan instead of forward of it. Now it works 100% instead of 50% as previously! Seems like I read a long time ago that even the original Harpers Ferry rifle and pistols were not that reliable at the time.

glad to hear it. i don't know about the "original" guns but my repro from DGW had the same problem. i just heated it up with a torch bent it then dropped it in oil to re-temper and its A-OK. :grin:
 
I did the same thing to my Pedersoli Harpers Ferry and mine too went from sometime to dead reliable ignition. Got the advice off this wire. Good advice. Glad you're fully functional. Cheers.
 
Well....I live in WEST VIRGINIA and Harpers Ferry IS BOUT 140 miles from me...makes no difference I know...
My Pedersoli ignited every time as long as I didnt have too long of a Flint in the jaws.....
