My husband and I are collectors and came across this we are pretty sure it is a replica of an 18th century flintlock pistol, but we are not sure anyrhing about it. We would love to know anything about it. Please help.

The clearest indicator that this is a replica is the frizzen “spring,” which is molded directly into the lock plate rather than functioning as a true spring. Additionally, the barrel lacks a drilled touch hole, confirming its inability to fire. This piece is a non-functional wall hanger, intended purely for decorative purposes.

Other indicators are the level of finish to the barrel and wood. There is a difference once you see it between age related rust or patina and pieces made to look old. This is especially true for cheaply made wall hangers. Antiques will normally show evidence of once being smoothly finished and sharpness around the lock etc. even if well worn or even abused.
looks like the designs are milled into the barrel and filled with paint, Also, the frizzen shows only a few scuffs and the pan shows no wear. Looks like they dipped it in some chemical to "age" it.
Nevertheless, it's pretty .... clean it up, mount it in a frame, and hang it on your wall.
I agree. It's a nice display piece. I'd bet 95% of the folks who see it won't know what it really is.
