Wow! I did it.
This is my third attempt at this style stock. Definitely not PC/HC, but what I wanted for hunting. The design was modified from a commercial aftermarket stock that I put on my centerfire. I had to change drop of comb & butt from a scoped rifle to more traditional. From the breech forward, it is more traditional, but doesn't follow any particular style.
The barrel is a Rice, TOW style Jaegar, .58 cal. The lock is a Chambers Late Ketland, and the trigger is a Davis double set. The stock started out as a plank I picked up at the lumber wholesaler I deal with.
I'm still working up a load, but am now getting a 4-5" group at 75 yards off a bench. Still have to replace the front sight. I put on a TC hawken sight I had, but it's too high. I picked out a replacement from Midway, but they won't even ship a sight to Canada. So, had it shipped to friend in states & it's on it's way from him now. It's getting kind of close as I'm leaving for a moose hunt the 29th.

How do you use a thumbhole stock with a grip-rail style trigger guard?

Can you even reach the front trigger with your thumb in the hole?

Well, on the more traditional part, there is way too much wood covering the barrel, the ramrod web looks to be over a quarter inch thick, and the forestock is slab sided. The lock looks cockeyed to the barrel. The rest............well a man should build what suits him. Sometimes I get it, and sometimes I don't!
Best of luck to you in your moose hunt!!

Yer own thang, no doubt. In that there is beauty.
Reminiscent of Clark Frazier target rifles.
I was wondering about the grip also. :idunno:
Peeper for hunting doesn't work for me. Does for others, though, I know.
Would probably also be a great X-sticks, chunk gun, or light bench rifle.
Moose report mandatory.

Not a problem. 2 small fingers in the back hook, middle finger on the front, fully support the trigger finger to set the trigger and then gently touch the front trigger. For me, a perfectly comfortable hold. But then, I do have large hands.

SEE!....some of us like Paris Hilton too.......
beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

nice finish on the wood....I think a deep blue to the barrel and lock would set better overall in looks.....

I always wanted to build a 22 cal 'Buck Rogers' ray pistol.....just haven't gotten around to it yet~

Hmmm :hmm: , interesting combo of old and modern. When you build your own you only have to satisfy yourself. Good luck in the woods.

I only have one thing to add: we used to freeze the butt pad just before finishing to keep it from "rounding over" like that.
She's a beauty!

Thanks mike. The butt pad was not quite the same as the one I used as a template. So, I thought I could just sand the pad off. NOT! The gun is still a work in progress, but moose season approaches and some things will just have to wait until after.
