That's exactly what I have been working on for over a year Pork Chop... a timeline for all of TC's sidelock models and variations. Just got the green light from Claude to pursue the data more aggressively on these forums, and when I get it all put together he will make it available in the members resource area for all of us to peruse.

So watch for a "Thompson Center Timeline" post from me enlisting the help of the members here for more new data to add to what I already have. It will list the specific needs for the data to be acceptable for inclusion. May be a few days before I get it posted as I go in Monday morning for surgery again.

One other problem you will have is that it might have been made in '78-79 but there is no way of telling how long the dealer had it before it was sold or how long it was before TC shipped it to a dealer.
I also have a kit hawken that would be interesting to know when it was put in the box.
Will be looking for your post. Why not include the seneca and cherokees also? I have 2 of each bought over 20 years apart and it would be nice to see when they may have left the factory.

Have already considered the problem of firearms sitting on shelves for years before getting sold for the first time. Why the list once assembled will have a disclaimer concerning that fact, and why it will always only be a best guess list. Another problem is we have no way of knowing how many were made each year of each model. Why the goal was to only get within a year or two at best, and maybe the years first and last offered. Only data from original owners can be used too, not that from firearms bought used.

May not be worth the effort at all. Time will tell when we see if folks try to help build it or not. If they don't, it will fall by the wayside and the efforts would have been wasted. Not everyone cares when these firearms were made, so those folks will probably make no effort to help.

Plan does include all TC traditional models and variations, but again, that will be at the mercy of whether data is submitted or not for the different models.

I haven't made a big production of this the last year, just gathered what data I could as I came across it. Will give this a bigger try, but it may or may not fly. It will depend entirely on if folks take an interest.

And another variable with mass produced rifles like these is that the parts are interchangeable...barrels get ruined and replaced, or barrels get upgrade to a RB barrel then the original is sold on EBay and ends up on somebody elses rifles, etc...there's quite a bit of that.

So the only thing that might be able to be aged based upon S/N would just be the barrel...the stock and lock assemblies with any given barrel S/N will always be a crap shoot
