It's been a long season without much success, but this morning persistance paid off. I've hunted both New York & Pennsylvania during the regular & muzzleloader seasons & until today I had only filled two doe/anterless tags. This morning I had a hard time getting up after staying up too late last night, but I still made it into the woods by 7:05, just as it was getting light. I took a slow walk into the woods following along the edge of a piece of water that is the inlet to a lake. This is a nice area where I usually see deer when I'm there. I was only 200-300 yards from the truck when I heard something to my left. I looked across the frozen water to see about four deer on the bank just inside of the woods. Then I noticed HORNS! The buck moved behind some brush & I leaned against a tree & got ready. When he stepped out into an open area I squeezed the trigger for about a 100 yard shot. As the smoke was clearing I heard a lot of crashing thru the woods on the other side of the water. I reloaded & started walking around to the other side. (the ice wasn't thick enough to try to walk across it) About 15 minutes later I got to where the buck had stood. Looking around, I found some hair. Then a spot of blood. Then more blood. About 75-100 yards later, there he lay, my first Pennsylvania buck ever! It was now 8:10 and I had a nice little 6 point. It's definately not a trophy buck, but I'm still thrilled about it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v206/Protrucker/Flintlock/Dec3003.jpg

Here we go again. I forgot how to add a picture instead of just a link to it.

Thanks everyone.
My gun is a Tip Curtis .54 cal with a C-profile Green Mountain barrel. He called it an Allentown. The load I used was a .530 Hornady round ball with a .015" pillow ticking patch, pushed by 80 grains of FFg Goex.
