Finished Fainot inspired Lancaster fowler

That would be a great build with a slightly swamped rifled barrel and double set triggers. Seems very upscale for a smoothbore, but there it is.

Swamped barrel, for sure, but for a hunting gun I'll take a good single trigger and keep it smoothbore.

Hi,
Rich's "fabulous Fainot" is a great gun and it also illustrates my comment above about the usual color of black walnut. Below Rich's fowler I show photos of pistols with black walnut stocks but warmed with yellow dye.

Dave, interestingly the next Fainot fowler I’m going to build has a lovely reddish hue. I’m never sure how closely current finish appearance approximates the original look, but I’m going for it on this one. I think the carving may be similar to what he was doing when working in the Hudson Valley or may even be from that period. But that the lock says Ketland and Co argues against that timeframe (1770).
