This is a continuation of the previous series of posts about new work on an old project.  (Previous stuff is here:   http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/272622/  )

At any rate, I have finally finished the first of three rifles I started many years, and a lot less knowledge, ago.  Since this rifle was almost destined to be firewood, or a fence post, I did what I could to salvage it using the lessons I have learned here and elsewhere and am anxious to sight it in.  Actually, I am giving it to my brother-in law, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel, so I hope it shoots straight.

That is one fine fence post!

So when do you have time to do anything else? I will say this it is impressive. I would like to learn to do some light engraving!

You have gave me a couple of ideas on that one that I may try to incorporate into my build, just to make it my own.

Since inlays are not really of the time period I am working in. A little light engraving might just fit in. Now I just got to learn some or find someone to do it! :rotf:

All kidding aside you engraving work and the objects you have posted lately, well er, it's just great work!!!!

So I just got to ask! Got any idea how many hours you got in that rifle??????

And you say you learned to do this kind of work
from us????? I can't do that. Wasn't me...

Looks like about a $7000.00 fence post. If I knew you were going to get that good at engraving I never would have let you in my shop.
No joking, That is a great gun. Best I've seen for a long time. You should quit wasting your time working as a rocket scientist.

Shazaam!!
I've been staring at that piece for 10 minutes and still need another 10.
The lock work is purely hypnotic

Now if you just had one of your "attempts" at a powder horn. You look under the bench in the dog treats and see if there isn't one there that would go with this "fence post" Might even find a nice powder measure,,wouldn't that be the cats meow!!!!!
That is going to be my screen saver,, if you don't object.

i'm drooling, to tell the truth i'm not to fond of engraving, but i really like you're work. it's absolutely amazing, was that all done by hand?

Thanks to all for the kind comments.

Jerry, if you had not let me in your shop I would not be engraving anything ! Thanks very much again. But I do need to come back for more lessons.

Izzyjoe: Yes, the engraving was all done by hand...just like Jerry taught me.

That's nice!.....But I think the LOP will be all wrong for your bro-in-law...better send it to me~

very nice work...keep it up!

well all i can say is that you are a taleted person, and i am green with envy! i'm sure you had a good teacher, you're brother inlaw will be very proud, and honored to own it. i hope he uses it, and not hang it on a wall.
