Arthur,
I applaud you on your courage in taking the plunge. Your poured metal work is quite impressive. I like the coloring of your lock and barrel.
Yes, it is a first project and most first projects are less than we would like, (Mine certainly were) but the knowledge that we take from the experience is often more valuable than the value of the item created. I have gone back and reworked several projects after learning more abut them.
You have also learned that there is a great deal involved in the relationship between the lock, barrel, trigger and grip. You have learned how to inlet the parts and exercised the guts that it takes to jump into a project. What is next? You either apply your learning to a better project or never try again and thereby admit defeat.
I would look at many pics of guns and compare those with what I had done. Concentrate on the shaping of the wood. Adjust your methods and try again. Look for bargain parts and make another gun.
Do not give up. You have just paid the entry level prices and should now go for the next level. You show a lot of promise in this work. I look forward to seeing your next gun.
YMHS,
