I am very fortunate to have hooked up with a very good local gunmaker. He has made 100+ muzzleloading guns since starting gunmaking. He only does this part-time, so I consider it a privilege that he is taking his time to help me build my own gun.

For my own use...as I can't remember 90% of the things he is going over as we build the gun...I am videoing the major parts of the work. I plan on editing the video and using it in my own gunmaking and I plan on giving him a copy.

The gun we are building is a different gun than he has ever built before. Being an avid deer and turkey hunter, I wanted a gun that I could do both. So I asked if we could make a gun where the barrels could be switched for whichever application I was needing at the time. He thought about it for a while...and then accepted the challenge.

I am building a 36" .54 cal with a 1:44 twist. And I have a 36" 16 gauge smoothbore shotgun barrel. Both are straight octagon barrels. The stock is curly maple.

I will try to attach a couple of pictures so you can see where I am in the process. In the first picture, I just wanted to show what I came from and where I am right now. The other picture shows the basic shape of the wrist and buttstock and the triggers and sideplate.

I will try and update every chance I get.

Here are a couple of pictures of the build.

Thanks guys! I usually work on it Wednesday evenings. The guy I'm working with is working with a couple other people as well. I've been trying to make sure I document most everything we do...either by photograph or by video. I'm very excited!! I would love to finish it in time for spring turkey season....starting off in Florida!! Gobble gobble!!! I will post pictures periodically. Thanks again!
