I put down my first buck with this muzzleloader. I've been struggling to develope a load for this rifle and finally got it figured out earlier in the week. Took a 40 yard shot with him on the move, he went about 50 yards and face planted in the dirt.

The rifle is a 45cal made from basically extra leftover parts my father bought from Note Truelock back in the 90s when he closed down his shop. He gave it to me as a wedding gift. The load 40gr of 3F goex with a .015 ticking patch and a .440 round ball. I did recover the ball from the buck from just under the skin.

Great buck, great shot, great looking flintlock. I’d have those tenderloins sizzling first thing after a few days in the cooler. I’ve been blanked this year so far.. a nice doe and a nice antlerless male so far, both with my flintlock. Well done sir.

Congratulations on the buck with a flintlock. Nice deer and Very nice rifle. I have one that was my first build in 1981 that looks just like yours. Mine has plain grade maple, iron hardware, Willie Cochran lock, Davis set triggers with straight front post trigger, and rusted brown all parts and the old Wahkon Bay Aquafortis Regent maple treatment and Wahkon Bay metal browning solution.
You have a nice rifle there. Glad you scored with your smoke pole.

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I was a little reluctant to take this rifle hunting, but now i'm confident it will get the job done. Now i'm off, have a date with a iron skillet and some fish loins. Thanks again.
