First deer with my Great Plains Hunter

the first flintlock kill I made was about 60yds. a average size doe. at the shot she ran all tuck up obviously hit. I went to the spot and there was blood, I followed it about 40yds and there was a dead deer at the end of it. a complete pass through. when I skinned her I coulden't believe the damage that 50 cal. RB had done! yea the old timers knew a thing or two,,,,,,,,,,,,

Round ball tissue destruction can be more impressive than what many high speed projectiles produce. Sometimes the destruction can be astonishing. I've killed two deer at 100 yards + and neither ran beyond "rock throwing" distance. Often they drop in place. This is why I hunt with a longrifle all the way through the ML AND regular gun season.

Yep, shoot a .54 round ball at a milk jug full of water with around 75 to 90 grains of powder and it will look like it's been hit by a high power centerfire.
