Got my first flintlock deer (Doe) this afternoon in Pa! Used my Lyman Trade Rifle rebored to 54 from 50 cal. by Bobby Hoyt, L&R RPL Lock tuned by Brad Emig. These guys do fantastic and reasonably priced, top notch work. She was a nice doe around 140 lbs. and what a gift! She came in around 4:30 and had to wait for a broadside shot. She went about 50 yards after the shot before falling over. I'm almost 68 years old now and have been trying to get a deer with this rifle since 2001. I'll tell you though, I think a hunter appreciates the gift of an animal taken with a flintlock or a bow because it is really difficult but teaches you a lot about the animal. Sorry for the sideways picture guys!

Congratulations, those doe deer taste just fine. I've shot my share of deer but never with a flinter, pretty cool stuff. I've passed on a small buck in favor of a doe quite a few times. Nice work, sounds like your rifle is a sweet set up.

22 years later and success.... congratulations on your doe... really like that little flintlock...bet it is handy in the thicker parts of the woods

Congrats 'Hunter! It took more than a decade for me to get my first ML deer - sometimes it just works out that way. You just never forget those things. I hope its the best tasting venison you've ever eaten!
