Well I just encountered my first real glitch in my flintlock rifle build. The only other glitch before this was a tap broke while tapping the lock bolts (yes - everyone here was very correct on their descriptions about the sound of a tap breaking).
Anyway, during the build I noticed that the 1/16" drill hole needed to run through the stock for the pin to run through the pivot point on the single trigger was going to have to be very close to the hole in the sear. So close in fact I could not just drill a hole and have it run into the center of the pivot point location on the single trigger. I filed a little metal off of the front of the trigger and in the front of the groove in the trigger plate so the trigger will be mounted forward a little more.
Anyway, I drilled the 1/16" hole as close to the sear bar hole as I dared with the trigger held in position - just enough to make a drill mark on the trigger at the pivot point. I noticed that the mark was quite close to the top edge of the pivot point location. Against better judgement, I put the trigger in the vice and tried drilling the 1/16" hole through it. Of course, the top edge broke out during the drilling and I'm left with an open U-shaped gouge at the top of the trigger pivot point location.
I'm looking for ideas on how to fix this. I hope I'm not the only one to have done this.
