Good evening folks, below are two pictures of my first attempt at a hunting bag. It was an interesting learning curve and my most ambitious leather work job so far. It has also given me an excuse to go out and buy a few more tools! I can now fit all my muzzleloading junk in it for trips to the rifle range.

Might want to consider a retaining strap and button for your axe.

Good morning Gents and thank you for the kind comments. The nice even stitching was achieved by carefully marking out the area with a stitching wheel before touching my awl. I have used vegetable tanned leather and dyed it with an organic natural dye. I have also identified the need for a proper leatherworking knife, as I was using my repro scalping knife to do the cuting on this job. It will take me a while to build up my range of tools.

I shall be field testing the bag on Saturday and may take up the advice on a button & strap for the axe if it seems loose.

Nice work! Doc..love the fitted hawk pocket!

idea for next bag..sure there will be more :haha:

angled out strap attachment....not need with rings.

Thats the way I do it, actually that looks like one of my bags!, nice work on your first pouch, well done!

If I might humbly add one small piece of advice. Including a welt between the seams will add strength and durability to the bag and the stitching. Further, I have been told over the past couple of years to not sew all the way around the square when attaching the strap to the bag. That creates a perforated tab that can inadvertently come lose. Other than those two small items, its a great looking bag. Far better than my first years works!

Thank you for the comments everyone, and thanks Spotted Bull you made a couple of good points that had not occurred to me.
