Here is a first attempt at a horn and hunting bag.The horn is bison with carved aspen butt plug and deer antler stopper. The strap is made from yucca fiber. The bag is buckskin with yucca fiber strap.Does it need a flap button? Both are meant to look like they were made in the woods and have a rugged but usable look. Thanks for looking.

They both look real good. Nice work. Though I wonder if the rope will scratch your neck. :hmm:

I have a bag with a leather button and another without. I feel more secure with the button. Though I have not lost anything hunting yet. It might look real nice with an antler button. I guess it is your personal choice.

:hatsoff: Great looking set up there Brun.
Got another question for you about that "yucca" fiber  . How durable is that stuff, and where do you get it? does it grow in the area where you live?

Yeah it grows here.I got it along side the road.My brother and I had a tug of war with the rope and it didnt break,so I guess it will hold. That bone stopper I was going to make didnt work out.I broke it off in the horn and had to drill it out,bad deal.I think I left the bone in the fire to long and it got brittle. Thanks for the tip on sealing the horn with beeswax, worked great!Horn building is a very frustrating process. You guys that do it all the time have more patience than I do.The yucca rope was the easiest part about it.

Ya done good. I like the cut marks in the base plug. :v

If your leather isn't very stiff, which most buckskin isn't, your bag might benefit from a button. Personally, I don't use a button if the leather is stiffer and stays down under it's own weight, make sense? Buckskin without a button would make me paraniod I might loose something, but that's just me. I agree, if you do a button make it horn/bone. It will compliment the powder horn stopper.

If anyone is curious this is what the rope is made from.It is yucca.Very pokie so look out if your collecting it.
