I thought I'd take a stab at horn making to see if it was too hard for me. Well, I'm pretty happy with the first try. I made it all in one day from raw horn to finished priming horn. I didn't go for the super shiny finish on the horn, as I wanted it to look used and old. I also took the easy way out and used pine for the end cap. Actually, it was easy to form and fit the end cap with nothing but hand tools, so the next one will be hardwood. I actually think the hardwood will be easier to form, as it is not so likely to chip out like pine, but then again, pine is quicker. This is a small priming horn, but all the steps in making it would apply to any size horn, so I'm pretty darn happy. Next a full size powder horn!
