It will be nice to have another Renegade .54 on the line. Be interesting to see how they perform side by side.

Yes, I’d like to do that sometime. Probably will work on getting a little familiar with it first so I don’t look like a total *****. Are you shooting roundballs or conical in yours?

I shoot round ball, they work fine for my needs.

Don‘t worry about how you look, they never make fun of me 😉

Well after the GRRW Leman that came with a cracked stock, I decided that I would find a good entry level muzzleloader to get into deer hunting with. I came across a well cared for early Renegade 54 cal. I’m pretty happy with it, and I can’t wait to shoot it. The stock has more of a dull oil finish and different sight than my dads 1983-ish Renegade.

Here are some pics.
Tidy gun! Good luck with it.

If you’re hunting deer with this rifle, round ball will work very well. .54 makes a large entry, and often exit, wound. With a bit of experimentation most T/C rifles will shoot them well. I’d start with a .530 ball, .018 patch, an unlubed wool wad under the ball and 70 grains of 2 or 3f powder. You can experiment with more powder from there up to 120 grains in order to find an accurate load. That’s a beautiful rifle. You’re starting with a good one!

Great looking Renegade! I have it’s twin, I love the early sights, partridge front and nice square blade, easy to see with my old eyes. Try .530rb with a .018 lubed patch, over 70-80 grains FFG. Mine shoots “lights out” with that load. Kills real quick also.

Those Thompson Center rifles had nice wood on them. Many times when they are re-finished by owners they find an even nicer grain hiding under the factory finish. I had a LH Renegade many years ago. And like many others also say, I wish I had hung onto to it.

Have fun with it.

Got out and fired a few rounds this morning. Less than ideal conditions with gusty winds and just resting my elbows on the picnic table…but 5 shots that would definitely be minute of deer at 50 yards. Used a starting load of 80gr of triple seven.

80 grs is plenty, so is a 54 ball. Really like my Renegade rifles. Look up IdahoLewis videos on You tube and see what he does with a stock renegade like yours… and the distance he does it!
