Got out kind of late with less than an hour of light left so since we have snow on I figured id walk instead of sitting... So I started back the road and moved fairly slow through the usual places and started across some ridge fingers I never thought about hunting until we got this snow... Well there are tracks running every which way through there. So I crossed them about half way up real slow.. At this point its just after sunset and I get to a corner of this thicket where it seems most of the tracks converge. Again a place I wouldnt have really hunted until I saw all the tracks in the snow. Positioned my self just on the edge of the thicket and stood there. Could have killed probably 10 squirrels if I wanted lol. Well it's getting pretty dark and im thinking ill have to go soon and I look up behind me and 4 does are coming down the path that im more or less standing on... So I pull the cock back and shoulder the gun... They are about 35 yards away and.... I can't see my sights... So im standing there watching them slowly walk closer and pick a spot 15 yards away where I can see my sights against the snow.. And wait.... Closer they get and finally when they are so close I can almost hear them breath I make sure my sights are still lined up and move the silhouette of the muzzle onto the lead does shoulder and squeeze... She hit the ground so hard at 10 yards I got hit with snow of course I couldnt see her through the smoke and fire but it only took a second to clear... And there she was. The other three stood and watched long enough I could've reloaded and smacked one of them too but we can't do that here... No need to reload really until 3 mins later I hear about 10 Coyotes just over the ridge... Well I don't think they would mess with me but I do have 200+ pounds of food amd I have seen Jeremiah Johnson... So I reloaded anyways cause 10 60 pound dogs wouldn't be fun... But I never saw them... Got her cleaned and drug her home which I probably wouldn't have done alone if it weren't for the snow... The kids wanted to go out and pet her lol and when I told my son we were gonna eat her he told me "no eat" lol hes only 3

Thanks guys I haven't hunted with iron sights in several years. I will say that was Definetly cool and im gonna have to use the muzzleloader more often. Wish we could use handguns here lol then I could pursue both my passions at once. I have been hunting with a pistol exclusively for about 5 years now.

Lol he eats deer he just hasn't made the connection between food and the animal.... Im going to take him when I cut it up. Guns all clean and oiled wife's mad at me cause I went hunting instead of doing dishes lol cause I didn't do anything today you know except provide roughly 40 pounds of meat to the household lol women are funny

Lol if she would've cleaned the gun then I could've done the dishes... Yeah try suggesting that... :rotf:

I think deer are about the best tasting animal in existance if its cared for right
