This is a pic of the first powder horn that I made. Hope to improve on the next one , perhaps by purchasing a "how to" book.
It pales in comparison to the others I've seen on the forum, but it is functional. Also shown is a 80 gr. powder measurer from a deer horn.
I was unsure of the knots used in attaching the thong to the horn. I ended up using two half hitches on one end and a square knot on the other end. I'll see which one lasts the best.

Looks nice, I like the way you did the spout!
You have a considerable area of white that would allow some scrim work.
I created mine from an old roping steer, real rough horn and it came out well. added some scrim and I will have for ever!

Use it proudly, You did good!

My guess is that 99% of the horns used in the old days were well made working horns like yours. I don't think the average hunter , traper could afford the fancy gear we see today.

Nice Horn!

I will be composing a horn here very soon and I hope it comes out as nice as yours!

Take care!

I've seen others posting pics without using the link to photobucket. Can you share with me the manner in which you post the pic directly to this site??
TIA, snagg

Yep, just copy and paste the third line below your picture in Photobucket--the one that has "Img" beside it, into the body of your reply box.

Catsquirrel1.jpg

will be after it, and that will cause it to appear as a picture in your post rather than the link.

That's the easiest way. You can also use the little "image" icon directly above the reply box, but it adds a couple of steps that way.
Hope that helps.

Thanks fella's for the nice replies.

fw707: thanks for the headsup on the shortcut for posting the photo.
