I finished my first rifle a couple of days ago. Not only was it my first rifle, but my first real time working with wood! It was a lot of fun and I hope to build another soon. This is an Isaac Haines kit in .54 from TOTW with a 38" Rice barrel. I hope you enjoy and go easy on a first time builder. Thanks to everyone for your help and advice! :hatsoff:

Go easy He_ _ . :applause:
This is as easy as it gets. Fantastic for a first timer, great job in anyone's book! Like that case also! :hatsoff:

Very nice job.
I want to build one myself soon and I hope it turns like yours.
What kind of stain did your use?

I whiskered the stock 4 times, followed by 2 coats of Laurel Mountain Forge stain in Lancaster maple. After that, I did about 5 or 6 coats of Tru-Oil with minor 0000 steel wooling in between finishes. After that, I did two polishings with Birchwood Casey Stock Sheen & Conditioner. I may still apply one more coat of that. We'll see how the finish holds up with handling, etc.

And thanks everyone for your compliments! :hatsoff:

Hey, nice work. I built an Isaac Haines ex TOW about 3 years with a .40cal Colerain tube on it. MANNNNN does it shoot?

Beautiful rifle!! The finish work you applied really makes the grain stand out. Very nice job.

windsor,

what a piece of cr_p! i have never seen anything so hideous in all my days. Showing a rifle in that condition is a mortal sin.

In repentance, i suggest you send the gun my way, where it will be appreciated and attended to properly!!

JUST Pulling your leg dude. That is one fine looking gun. Hard to believe it is your first. I have refinished a few old rifles that turned out real sweet, but never have built a new one from a kit yet. I am envious. YOU DID GOOD!!

proud of you,

duke21

P.S. i am assuming you are a petty fan by the picture. I am a diehard petty fan from way back in the early seventies when i was just a kid. Nice to see someone with some nascar taste.
