I've been wanting to try my hand at doing small inlays but didn't want to mess up a good rifle stock so I decided to try it on a tomahawk handle, the most I'd have to do is buy a new handle if it was really messed up.
I used an exacto knife. Looking close I can see several areas that don't look so great but it was a good learning experience. I may buy some decent tools and try again.

I admit I used epoxy but the next time I want to try making some small nails and doing it more PC.
Don't think I'm ready to do a patch box yet. HA

Just remember what I've said many times before.
The artist is his own worst critic.

As for your hawk, it looks like your on your way to inletting!

"TODAY THE HAWK, TOMORROW THE GUN!!!!!" :)

John,
Did you do anything to the underside of the inlays to make sure the epoxy held them in place? I usually take a chisel and make little taps to the underside to make sure epoxy has something to hold on to.

I had just bought several gravers so I used them to mark up the back of the inlay. I also used them to mark which way the inlay went. I can't say it was hard as much as it was time consuming.

I wouldn't call it pro work but not too bad for my first time. I would think doing curves would be alot harder than straight lines though.
Now where did I put that catalog of patch boxes. HA

John S Mosby,
they look great to me if you don't like them before you throw them away send them to me    :applause: :applause: :)

Snake-eyes 1000

It's nice of you to offer to save me the trouble of throwing the hawks away, what a guy.

Beautiful Hawks'. I am thinking about doing the same thing! You gave me some inspiration. Now, I just have to wait until after Christmas, when I have some $$ (pay off everyone stuff!). :D

Thanks for your kind words. The whole project didn't cost that much. The brass pipe hawk was on sale at Dixon's for $22. The other one came from TOTW. I don't remember what the diamond inlays cost, not very much.
I got more than my money's worth in the enjoyment of seeing them all done. Plus it kept me busy in the evenings for a few weeks.
