I will have to count my unused caps today to see how many rounds I shot yesterday at the range ( over 40) . My shoulder hurts :( . Now for the particulars : with 495 balls, 60 g of Pyrodex RS Hodgen Spit Ball and CCI caps I got my GP to 1 inch drop at 50 yards maybe half inch to the left. All the shots were consistently grouped. I had to file the front sight down as the adjustable buckhorn sights were all the way down. Some young guys shooting instead of going to their company Christmas party were amazed that I would take a file to my rifle. I made all the rookie mistakes ( no load with ball )and a big thanks to an ol timer muzzleloader Chester at the range for helping me  . Now I have to go back to the range and see what Lyman does at 100 yards. Next week is our company Christmas party HMMMMM????? :hmm:

you have to raise the rear sight to make the rifle shoot higher. the rule is move the rear sight in the direction you want the ball to go. move the front sight in the oppisite.

so if you have the rear sight all the way down and still hitting low then mabe half trun up will put it on.

dont worry i had to cut my front down a little anway. so i did not have to max out the rear sight.

OH I am so dumb  Still have to go out at the 100 yard and get it close. Thanks!

I just love it when the modern shooters get a 3 inch group at 50 yards with their scope'd rifle and then just stand there with their mouths open when they see a 1 inch group fired from a "old fashioned" sidelock!

zonie :)

LOL yup! Or have them whip out their autoloadin roonie gun with all the "tacti-cool" stuff hanging off it it, and can't get a group. Only to be outshot by all of us using our "junky old fashioned" charcoal burners. I run into that all the time. Mostly with the handgun crowd though.

It was a real slow day at the range and not too many autos out, some old Russian and Mausers, boy was I happy when Chester showed up to help me with all my greenhorn mistakes. Now to get back to the range B4 the Ohio 3 day deer (if its brown its down) season. Merry Xmas

another rule is black stuff first. i forget that one at least once a match. and i have been shooting for many years.
