a while back i got a box of hawk heads, handles and stuff on ebay. i have been working on one of them, the small english re davis pipe axe. i finally finished it but to me i think i did something wrong. it has great curl in the handle and i stained it with some great AF i got from swampy, thanks bud, and the color came out ok looking. something just doesnt look right to me. i dont know if its the shape i carved the handle in or what. i had the head heat treated and tempered, the edge only. all that is left is to drill the bowl. heres a pic of it. what do you guys think and if yall would let me see some of yours cause i still have one set left and i would like to do this from time to time, maybe make myself another one.
thanks jason

I think it looks great. If you still want to do somthin to it, maybe an inlay of some kind? But I think it looks beautiful as is.

thanks guys. the shape of the handle had me kinda concerned. i thought id try something new, im not up to doing inlays but i have been thinking of a scalplock on the lower swell and maybe some tacks.

Awesome! A scalplock would look great! A friend of mine designed one that looks really great. He took a horse tail and flattened out the skin and cleaned it up a little, then he painted it a brownish red and took some seed beads and wrapped the edges with them. It looks great and looks just like the Catlin Paintings. Thats what I've been doing since.

:hmm: Jason, I'm concerned that yer too hard on yerself. :hmm: If you think you need more practice, you send that old tomyhawk to me and I'll dispose of it fer ya!

It looks great! Maybe a little antler mouth piece for the stem. :applause:

A fine looking Hawk to me. The overall patina looks nice. I like the style of the handle. It's a little different from a standard taper. I do agree with the suggestion of a scalplock hanging or maybe a horsehair drop.

appreciate the compliments guys. my wife agrees with ya im hard on myself sometimes, but i reckon i should keep this 1st one. i did start an antler mouthpiece today and am going to look for some horsehair i have here somewhere, ts an auburn color that will match the handle some.
