Instead of buying new, buy a TC used. You should be able to find a nice one for $350 or less. TC will fix anything other than a abused barrel due to lack of cleaning. Stocks can always be refinished, just make sure there is no chips with wood missing. One person on here just found two TC's with great barrels and got them for $90 each! Visit some gun shows, gun shops and look here every day as well. I wouldn't buy a new TC with the QLA on the barrel.

Go to some yard sales with the Mrs.! A co-worker of mine bought an Italian repro Pennsylvania long rifle percussion .50 cal....I know not period correct but for 30 dollars it was a steal. I cant get that lucky :( He even talked the man down 10$ :rotf:

The only percussion gun I own is a GPR. It's a solid, well built, good looking rifle that is much more accurate than I am.

I don't like the looks of the TC's at all and therefore would not have one at any price. just my humble opinion and $.02.... :hatsoff:

I have both and love both. I built a TC 50cal & GPR 54cal from a kit and in my opinion the GPR has a more accurate barrel.

I also have a factory built TC 50cal Flintlock it is my first experience with a Flintlock and it works perfect ally if I do my part correctly.

I am thinking about getting a Flint Lock kit from Flintlocks.com with a swamped barrel in 54cal.

I have both in .54
The TC (1:48) I picked up used for $350 and is an older model w/out the QLA and very accurate with Lee REAL boolits and 70-100grs volume Goex ffg.
The GPR (1:60) I built from a kit and absolutley love shooting prb with it. Both have musket cap nipples. I like them both equally as I admire the TC cause thats what Robert Redford (JJ) carried and I equally admire the GPR for greater authenticity towards the original Hawken. If I were to buy another it would be the GPR in a .54 flint kit.
