okay well i'm new here and i figured i'd share wat was not only my first flintlock deer, but first deer ever. i was 16 and my dad was working, but he said after our chores we could go hunting. well after our chores my brothers didn't want to go out anymore because it was cold and windy. At this time i have never shot a muzzleloader in my life, or loaded one. my younger brothers walked me through the steps of shooting and loading and sent me on my way. i realized the gun was right handed, but i didn't have my own lefty model at the time. so i get my gear together and walk down in the swamp behind our house where i new the deer would be laying. so i walk to where i wanted to sit and set my seat up in the snow. i couldn't see anything while standing, but as soon as i sat down i saw several deer laying under some pines. i thought all of them got up and i picked one out and tried to shoot, i forgot to pull the hammer back lol. anyway i sat in frustration and saw another, smaller deer laying still. i took my time, aimed true, and i harvested the first deer of my life. it was a bad shot as he was getting up as the shot went off. but he ran about 150 yards and died. i was soo happy.

congratulations. Here's hoping that it will be the first of many. I find that muzzleloading is one of those activities where the journey can be more enjoyable than the destination.

At least you killed the deer you was aimin' at. My first was runnin' beside the one I wanted, I didn't lead far enough.

Congrats! :hatsoff:

Of course you realize you are now on the path of no return... blackpowder addiction and deer hunting obsession. You poor lost soul. Welcome to the ranks.

Congrats on your kill! Maybe you can get a ML that is for you by next year.

Good luck
