Property line measurements are a key. Noise. You don’t have to deal with dust issues like ag does. But basically the same type attack

Makes me think of Briscoe Darling's conversation with Mayberry Sheriff Andy Taylor about dealing with pesty neighbor Ernest T. Bass. Briscoe looked at Andy and matter of factly stated "Thought about killin' 'em, kinda hated to go that far." Barney piped up with 'It's wise man who doesn't take the law into his own hands". Briscoe looked at Andy and asked "Is he one of ours?" $adly a lawyer my be needed, good luck dealing with your pests.

Thank you all for the replies. We have had two meetings so far. Both had a lot of support for the range. The two people who want the range closed . Never said a word an they only post anonymous online about the range.
The bad news is we have a new township board coming in. All liberals.!
Your HOSED, now on two fronts . These types have no life , nothing but time on their side, and hate what ranges stand for. Best wishes for your success.

I bought nearly 20 acres next to me to prevent such a scenario. We have a range in a small gravel pit on my original property that is adjacent to the 20. Lawyer fees would probably exceed the 100K+ I spent. As I am nearing 3/4 of a century in age my patience has worn thin with whiners. Have a neighbor, ( a peaceful guy), that used to drink to excess, he was noted for shooting into some of his junk cars late at night. Nobody in the neighborhood bothered to call him out for it. Live and let live. Funny how inconsiderate and intolerant Liberals are.

I've noticed lack of consideration for others is like an epidemic in society these days, and regardless of politics. There were some guys at the range a week or so I could tell a story about. Who I'm pretty sure weren't liberals, and I'm definitely sure weren't taught by their parents to be considerate. Evidence of that "me first and me only" attitude only just STARTED by them parking their pickup in front of the gate marked by a "No Parking for Emergency Vehicle Access" sign and subsequently went downhill from there.

We have a small public gun range. It has been in use for 50 plus years. No issues an no problems. Now because of a couple of people that moved to our area recently from California. They want it closed because of noise and lead contamination.
Any legal non violent suggestions ? Anyone else have to deal with this ?
Maybe Trump will deport them back to California. :D

In PA, ranges have a State law grandfathering them in. A sportsmen's association I know of way out in "the sticks" had newby housing come in and try to shut it down! It's still there. Another range I'm with recently had a major lead clean up of the shotgun ranges; lots of lead there! CA is one sick puppy of a State!

Do people around there get their water from wells, or a public water system? If the former, then the complainers may have legal standing. Has the groundwater been tested? I live in a red state where industry has been basically unregulated. I had to install an $8,000 well water filtration system because the ground water is highly contaminated. It's a problem statewide. Politicians have passed legislation giving industry immunity from lawsuits in regards to ground water contamination. It's the nature of living in a red state.

I used to fly for the military. We used to do night landing practice at an old remote WW2 airfield in a red state. Developers bought up land around the airfield and built a huge housing development, right up to the airport fence under the landing approach path. Our new neighbors tried to shut down the airfield due to jet noise that went on until 2 a.m. When that didn't work, the gun nuts started exercising their 2nd Amendment rights and shooting at us during our landing approaches.

There will always be nut cases who don't do their due diligence before moving in somewhere. Let them spent their money fighting you. Start a GoFundMe legal defense fund.

Club I'm in is on govt property and they go in periodically and "harvest" lead from the berms and recycle it somehow. Maybe that could placate the snowflakes. Noise is another matter; tough....

Please check the Environmental Protection Agency's publication "Best Management Practices for Lead at Outdoor Shooting Ranges".

Let the citizens know that shooting ranges are depository and recycling locations for copper and lead according to the EPA. Installation of storm water runoff best managements practices may have to be done, if not already.

Basically, if its a gun range, it should always be a gun range according to the EPA. Unless the opposing party chooses to foot the bill to purchase the property and conduct the remediation of the lead and copper. This will include scraping yards of topsoil, hauling and cost of acceptance to a landfill that take this type of contaminated waste (very expensive).

I hope this helps.

The range should use best management practices for lead hazard reduction. There are multiple sources of information. The EPA has good guidelines:

Also check with the NRA for expert advice!

My favorite range in CA was closed due to libertard complaints about noise decreasing enjoyment for hikers in Chabot Regional Park (the range was there for many years before the park became more popular with hikers and dog walkers) and some unfounded fears of lead contamination in Lake Chabot. Unfortunately, the regional park closed the range, in defiance of public outcry at a public meeting regarding the issue. The park board of directors had already made up thier minds, and would not hear reason. Now we have very few ranges in the Bay Area.

Lots of useful comments above. Suggestions:
Meet informally with your local government officials and outline your challengs.
Ask the authorities to apply an overlay zone around the range reaching out a mile or so. In that zone, property buyers would see a statement such as "this site is located in an area near a sportsmen club with a gun range. Sound from the range may be audible."
Verify what your zoning is and determine if the gun range, shooting club, etc. is a permitted use. It is likely a "grandfathered, legal use" anyway.
Host an open house, with munchies, for your neighbors and provide an opportunity, with instructions, to shoot a firearm.

If safe and well-managed, I'd think the new residents can't say much...50 years so they knew it was there when they bought the property. Does the range have a lead management and reclamation plan? If not, your complainers may find a sympathetic bureaucratic agency.
They probably will, it's Michigan! OMG lead pipes in Flint are going to kill everybody!

A lot of great people at that range. This was our daughters home range ,on her way to setting 14 or 15 national records, and another 13 or 14 national titles, in 3p air rifle while in 8th grade. Our daughter and us spoke at that meeting and another along with others, you could see the writeing was on the wall though.

One of the many reasons I left commiefornia in 1997, the first one was to get far away from the psycho starter wife!

Carmel indiana . Point Blank gun store wanted to build a indoor shooting and gun store on the out skirts of town. It was going to be close to the Monon trail.lots of people use this trail for many things. Complaints were the noise even though shooting was inside a somewhat sound proof building. They built elsewhere. Soon a doggy day care/hotel was built in that spot. Now when you walk on the trail and go by this dog day care you get to hear 10 to 15+ dogs nonstop barking morning till dark . That's so much better then muffled gun shots.

Shooting at aircraft landing because they annoy you is NOT part of the 2nd Amendment. The 2A doesn't protect stupidity or criminal activity, which that was.

Some of them outsiders might not like living around here. Yesterday afternoon one of my neighbors and a couple of his friends were shooting a muzzleloader (maybe half dozen shots) in his backyard. Early this morning a neighbor on the opposite side shot what sounded like a handgun probably 6 times. One night last week around 10pm my next door neighbor took about 7 or 8 shots at some coyotes. I shoot every coyote and ground hog I can here on the farm. However, none us will shoot dozens and dozens (and definitely not hundreds) of rounds in one session. Nobody around here minds a few occasional shots because we know whose shooting and what they’re shooting at.
