Ok Doing my first build sort of. Its a penetonica stock for a T/C Renegade rifle. I got the L&R lock and the deer slayer triggers fit as well as the tang. Here is my question, the barrel hook will go into the tang but the barrel is a tad too wide to fit in the channel. What is the best way to open up the channel so the barrel will fit. I probably will have to take some off the bottom too I am guessing. I have been thinking about trying to use a long sanding block to evenly sand down each side but before I start and screw it up I thought I better ask. My wife will be proud I asked for directions. LOL

Both previous answers are good, but I much prefer the scraper. Especially one that is made for scraping a barrel channel and gets all the flats at the same time. You can also take a stub of the correct size barrel, grind the face of each end square and flat and use it to push down the channel and shave wood off. It helps to tilt it at an angle. Good channel scrapers are hard to find and most builders end up making their own.

BTW, make sure you draw file your barrel before trying to get a good final fit. I do that as my first step before removing any wood.
